Anything about the 283rd Med Det (HEL AMB)? or A/159th AVN BN/101 AVN GP / 101 Abn Div(Airmobile)?

Thanks Dominic

Jim Mann, Tomahawk 13 (66-67), AKA The Cheerios Kid, appeared in an AP wire story today, front page, of the Longview, TX News Journal.

Jim's photo topped the story about a team of expert water tasters evaluating quality of bottled and municipal water submitted by an international array of cities and companies. After a year of tasting Lister Bag flavored water in RVN, Jim should know good tasting water when it hits his palate.

Check your local paper for the story. Rumor has it that Jim may make a personal appearance and sign autographs at the 128th reunion in Las Vegas.

Greets! (I’ve already satisfied the law about sunny Florida) I was in country from about June or July 66' to spring of 67'. I was infused (fired?) to the 188th up in Dau Tiang for my last three months. Major "Daddy Alligator" Kitterman fired me because I faced off with him in the Gunslinger club over a DFC that I would'nt write (make up?) for John Trotty. Let me tell you , my son, has provided a great service for me and he doesn't even know it!!! He has made me realize what is really important not, repeat not ,the things that I thought were important!! He lives with his mother (thank heavens I no longer do) but he is at my house 3 or 4 days a week and he is my best buddy! I want to thank you for the "welcome home" but I have to say, I have let a lot of " doors stay closed" for a very long time and even after 35 years it ain't easy. Lets stay in touch!

Greetings from sunny Florida (I have to say that, it is a state law or something) I was just fiddling around with my son's computer when, on a whim, I looked the VHPA web. Then, quite by accident , I found the 128th site!! There were photos of Tomahawk slicks and hooch’s and a flood of memories tumbled out of places I thought I had closed the door on a long time ago. I read you narrative in the FAQs section and all I could say was, "Amen, brother amen". A couple of weeks ago, I had a rather difficult situation. My son ,Christopher, found my medals in an old box up in the attic. I know I am an "old codger" but my son is just 13. I found myself having to talk about a lot of stuff I really didn’t want to get into. I wish I had read your blurb first! While "trolling" I noticed an "obit"for Rod Hooks - I knew him, we served together ,he was a good guy. I also noticed that Homer Rogers was gone , Homer could spin more tales that ten of us put together! I am proud to have known these men (we were boys when I knew them) proud to have been a Gunslinger. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn’t trade the experience of Viet Nam for anything, but I've been lucky. I've got a great son, and I have my health. I still fly for a living (not, repeat not ,helicopters) and that was a long, long time ago. You know something? I hadn't thought about "shit burning day" in more than a few years. Let me say it again ,Amen, brother, amen Jim Hestand 3rd Platoon (Gunslingers)128th Assault Helicopter Company,11th battalion, 12th group, 1st Aviation Brigade Phu Loi R.V.N

Subject: Got additional photos

Thanks Bill,

When you get them loaded on the web let me know, I see you have many up on the web right now. Hope I can get my name up on the list that supports your site. I will do all I can to help you Bill.

As far as you going back over to our old area, well have a good time and be careful my friend and May God be with you. I have thought of going back some but my job is not doing to well at this time and no extra funds for that kind of stuff. Bill I understand that they give a little tour from the air so you may find a way to take some pictures.

I am still trying to find a good picture of WITCHDOCTOR (1), I know I had a few but I do not seem find them at this time.

Brother Tomahawk,  Gerry Trumper

This is Tomahawk 29er from Oct 67 to Oct 68, I was interested in contacting any of the Tomahawks, Gunslingers, Witchdoctors, etc. I have been in contact with a few. If I can be of any help with stories, photos, etc. I would enjoy supplying whatever I can.  thx  George Wright gjwriht29er@comcast.net

Dear Bill; With my new computer I was browsing the impressive VHPA network and came upon the page announcing the Big gathering of all units located at Phu Loi, Lai Khe,etc to be held in New Orleans in Oct 2002. I found this page by following the reunion link from the 128th Assault Helicopter Company web page. Anyway the picture in the middle of the page, with the warrior in indian headdress, was a surprise because it is me. The picture was taken after the ceremony when I assumed command of the "TOMAHAWKS" in early February 1967.The other person in the picture with me is my brother in law then Capt Paul E Keller a Robin Hood magnet ass, who was at Phu Loi for the occasion. I know you are adding to the web sites all the time. If I can be of any assistance, just let me know. Before becoming Tomahawk 6, I was Red Dog 3 with the 11th CAB. In 1971-1972, I was Griffin 6 with the 223rd CAB. I have several good pictures, a good memory, and am in touch with several former Phu Loi dwellers. Good Luck Cornelius F McGillicuddy Col Inf Ret. Bill, I have many pictures of you and the guys. I will dig them out and send copies of them to you as quickly as I can. I don't know if you remember John Charles Hughes or was there the night his aircraft didn't make it back but he has been on my mind for many years a really nice person. I finally was able to write a poem for him. If you know how to get a copy to his family, mother, father, sister, brother I would appreciate the help. Ed
