CHARLES "DUTCH' COVERT
12/51 - 10/2000

To honor & remember always our dear friend and brother Charles "Dutch" Covert. 1st Troop Cavalry 1/9 12/51 - 10/2000

We came to know Dutch through "Heli-Vets" internet link and became inseparable after that. He had a presence about him that made everyone take notice: his tall, lanky frame and his contagious smile accompanied with razor sharp wit, often disguised as sarcasm. He was a warm and sensitive man. He had a gift in art and drew caricatures of other vets and events. He later got into making custom knives and doing outstanding file work on them. We shared three short years with him, now we carry him in our hearts and our memories.

He lost his battle with cancer just this past October (2000). We miss him dearly. We still look for him at knife shows when we go. We still expect him to come through the front door any minute and give us a ration of his typical humor. Our grand-daughter, Gabrielle, became Dutch's adopted grand-daughter. He thought she was pretty neat. She loved when he came around to flirt and rough house with her. She told me shortly after we went to pay our respects, at his final resting place, that it was okay, because we can still talk to Dutch in our hearts. I guess a four year old knows just how to some it up. Yes, we can and always will talk to Dutch in our hearts. You are gone my friend but not forgotten. We love you friend and brother.

Doug and Lee Ward and family.
