Oh What’s His Name , John Charles Hughes Oh what’s his name? I’ve heard of you Yes Oh what’s his name The soldier who we once knew The one who died to save our land That lad from long ago Yes, Yes, That’s the one, Oh What’s his name The clean-cut lad that we sent to fight So many years ago His name is not Oh What’s His Name It’s John Charles Hughes Spec-4 Door Gunner A man brave and true A mother’s son “There goes my son” “I am so proud of you” He with his smile so quick and pure A friend to all that’s good He served his country in Vietnam Until the day his chopper failed John had stayed to serve his crew The night was long The search was long At daybreak their fate we knew John was with his friends In the wreckage they were found Still serving me and you John was a friend John was my friend Whose name I barely knew John Charles Hughes Oh What’s His Name Copyright 2001 - Edward Ewing *John died in a helicopter crash in 1968
