I AIN’T NO HERO
I ain’t no American hero I don’t expect to be treated as one I’m just an ordinary soldier, who Went to do what had to be done
I don’t have the scars on my body As some of my brothers do I still have my arms and my legs And most of my sanity, too
That war produced true heroes No matter what some people said Their names are carved upon a wall For most of those heroes are dead
No, I did not get a big parade With streets lined with people and flowers But I did not really expect such things In this country’s darkest hours
I just came home and went on with life Not sure if it mattered at all Even though I like many before Answered my Country’s call
Yes, many of us went to serve In that bloody and terrible place Then returned to an uncaring country The pain etched deep in each face
No, I ain’t an American hero I didn’t pay the ultimate price
