THROUGH THE CARGO DOOR WINDOW!

As I walked sluggishly tired by a huey one day,
I dropped my toolbox and stared at the Cargo Door in my way.
They had reflections of a man,
Tired of a hard job to do,
I peered through the Plexiglas window
at people I once knew.

Buckled up tight, and fear on his face,
A CE was locking and loading his M-60,
a smile not a trace!
With trembling lips he utters CLEAR!
For he had a look upon his face of fear!

Then I saw a medic, racing with death,
On the stretcher a wounded soldier,
fighting off death.
IV`s swinging, bloody gauze on the floor,
I close my eyes, I don't want to see anymore!

Next, I see boxes and mail, piled high as can be,
Packages with Merry Christmas, with letters to see,
A smiling CE handing out stuff to an LZ grunt,
Tossing out stuff from back to front!

I see a CE holding  his gunner, a lifeless soul,
Asking God to bring him back,
and cursing this hell hole!
Asking for a trade, his life for his brother,
Remembering his last words to his Mother!

Then I realize that my mission is clear,
To keep these birds flying, mundane thoughts don't hear.
Work hard CE and be proud of your tiring task,
You are in Army Aviation, What more can you ask?
