Survival

Bullets

Rockets

Mortars

Fill the air

Nowhere is safe

From these weapons of war

So you have to be brave

Nothing else to be

I cannot hear them coming

But I remain alert

So that the enemy

Does not surprise me

Guarding

Must win

Must survive

Must kill

No choice is given

Dead comrades are just cast aside

Only the living can fight

The dead are unneeded

Some survive

And go home

Others don't

And are shipped home

I went home alive

But dead inside
