Comments: I just wanted to thank you for the stories and pictures on your website! I am Bob Codney's son and I wasn't born until 1973. These pictures give me some basis of what my father did when he was in Vietnam. I will pass this down to my children when I have them so they know about their grandfather and other men like him who fought for our great country and our way of life. Thank you again.

Webmaster's Note: I flew with Bob Codney for almost 6 months time before he became a "Gunslinger" and no longer rode with us "slick  jockeys". Bob was the best of the best - a real hero! I always felt safe when I flew with him. He would never hesitate to render aid or assist anyone in trouble on the ground. We flew through hell at times - but he was always so poised and in control. I have spoken to him just a few times this past couple of years - but I  consider him a lifelong friend! Be proud of your dad, young man - he is one of a kind!

Comments: Arrived at "Beat Cat" in March of 1967, transferred to 213th ASHC  in June 1967. Worked on flight line on CH47's. Crew-cheif 097 in Jan-Feb 1967. Was there for the fire work on July 29th, 1967!!! Interesting website. Any pics of the 213th in 1967? Thanks for the great site. Spec 4 Rich Coyne US51619147.

Webmaster Note: That rocket attack on Phu Loi did some very heavy damage and destroyed several helicopters as well. There were an estimated 250 rockets and mortars launched at the base camp that night. It was July 19th, I believe, rather than the 29th of July 1967. If anyone has a more definitive date let this website know.

I have tried to honor those who participated in one of the largest battles of the Vietnam War -- The Easter Offensive of 1972. Most Americans have never heard of the battles that took place during that period. My site "The Battle of Kontum" commemorates those few who stayed and fought with the ARVN units in the largest battle of the War. Best to you in your efforts -- Jack Heslin -- The Scribe

Comments:  G'day guys, I'm proud to say I served alongside you guys in the Vietnam War. I'm an Australian veteran of the War (infantry) wounded in action, 19th July, 1969. My web site reveals the Australian perspective of the War which many Americans are totally unaware of. I've also got an on-going battle with a gutless local government council which refuses to allow us to put up a plaque at a site where we planted over 200 trees as a "commemorative walk" on behalf of Vietnam War veterans. We'd appreciate any assistance from any of you guys who've still got a bit of fight left in you. (also a three year tour guy who flew for the 180th Big Windy's and 243rd ASHC “Freight Trains”) I am acting on behalf of Ms. Debi Olson who is trying to find someone who was in the 173rd AHC who knew her brother SP4 Richard (Dick) Olson the Door gunner who was killed on that aircraft.. His sister Debi knows how her brother died but as she was only 12 years old when he was killed in this crash. She'd like to find someone who knew her brother and could share a little bit of how he lived. It would mean a lot to her to make contact with someone who was his friend/bunkmate/unit member/whatever.. If you have any information at all that would assist me in helping Debi Olson find a unit member or know of a roster of unit members, I'd appreciate a reply. If you choose to remain anonymous, I will repect that right and only pass on information you can give. Thanking you in advance, beckenhaue_j@rocketmail.com

Attached in 70/71 at times with Seawolf Det 6 at Phu Loi after having our Navy Tactical Support Base at Song Ong Doc blown away in Oct 70. Remember well all the rocket, mortar and ground attacks with satchel charges on Phu Loi. We were on the far side of the base by the PX. the damn sappers would come through there at night and pass our two guns up to hit the many helos on the other side. One night a rocket hit in the middle of the com shack hitting the radioman in the chest evaporating him. Comments: Rev Bill, Was awesome to finally meet you after 2+ years of communication. Wish we had more time to talk, but understand you and Shadow had a bigger mission. One thing I meant to do, but we had no time for was to show you the "Hall of Hero's" that the museum at Rucker has. It was right there where we were talking, but in my excitement in meeting you I forgot about it. My dad's name is on it, as well as many others that you probably knew. I guess we'll have to get back together when I get back from Germany and see it. Bill, I really wanted to thank you for bringing me on board the Shadow Project. I can't begin to explain the depth of emotions I felt seeing all of you fly off Howze Field the first day. What an honor I've had to have been a tiny part of that massive project!

Webmaster: It was my honor to know and serve with your father...and my pleasure to finally get to met your wife and you at Fort Rucker! I was greatly moved by all that happened. I hope we get more time to talk in person when you return back to the states.

Comments: When I arrived at the 11th CAB from the Rep Depo, the BN HQ was apparently short on folks that could type. I could. There was no shortage of 67A's, so I went to work in the Personnel section. I extended, went home on special leave in 12/67, and when I returned became the BN Safety NCO, working for MAJ Ronald G Clarke, whom everyone called Gordy. My decision to extend became questionable in 2/68, during the Tet Offensive. For a time in 1968, I played the organ in the battalion chapel services, in the building between the 11th CAB and the 128th AHC headquarters. The chaplain's assistants were Dave Nelson and his replacement was Ben Gwynn. Another HHD vet found me on the Net some time back -- Vic Bary, who was also in the Personnel section during 1967. And from this guestbook, ran across the name of Ron Weakley, who was a legal clerk as well. I've sent a bunch of photos to Bill from the small group I have left. Most of them have been lost in the moves over the years. I was briefly on the 128th personnel roster, promoted to SGT E5 in a 51M40 firefighter slot, but spent my time with the HHD mostly. We ate chow at the 128th mess hall, however, if memory serves. I was one of the folks from the HHD who ran to the 128th area to help when it was mistakenly hit by artillery sometime in 1967. Four rounds, though the memory is mostly unclear. Went home in 8/68, back to college, and life has been good since. Went to The Wall and sat for an entire day, just looking and thinking. Best to all of you. At one time or another, I spent time with all the units of the 11th CAB. We were soldiers once, and kinda screwy. But great guys! I'm proud to have served with you.

I am a former regular Australian infantry soldier with service in SVN 68/69 You web site is excellent; it brings back so many memories and they are all not bad. I would like to get in touch with CW2 James Porter -Crossbow 38. It is possible that his Fire Team, I think it was a heavy, may have got me out of a parcel of trouble on the night of 15/16 May 68. I was a rifle Company Commander at the time and we were operating about 25 Ks North of Bien Hoa in War Zone D. From memory, one of the choppers was hit by Charlie, so the action was broken off to escort it back but there was also 3 jets involved which dropped napalm on my wire. All the best to you all and take care Colin

Comments:  If any of my fellow Tomahawks are interested in pix of some of the 128th AHC action between October, 1968 through October, 1969 I have a slide show with comments and I have a movie of some flights in and around Phu Loi, Lai Khe, and Bien Hoe with a sound track from the radio on one of our missions. I also have 3 of the four quarterly reports for the period and am looking for the July 1, 1969 through September 30, 1969. I also need some help filling in several of the blanks in my poorly mimeographed copy of the 2nd quarter of 1969. If anybody knows where I can find or access copies of these reports or any other records of our log books or daily missions, I would greatly appreciate it.

In the event that this might refresh your memory, I flew on four different slicks. The one I liked the best was named "Elusive Butterfly" and was known to the Phu Loi tower as Tomahawk International because of the pretty paint job until I was shot down near the foot of Nui Ba Den at the end of August, 1969. I had built a separate room within our hooch and served with Lyons, Martin, Huff, Tweedy, Moore, "Doc" Davis, Zappini, Finch, Mayer, Harris, McKenzie, Wayt, Osborne, Burgoine, Fultz, etc., etc., etc.

Served with the 510th Eng Co, MSC 5th Maint Bn, 25th Avn Co, and finally the world Famous "Greyhounds" 240th AHC at Bear Cat. Comments: Dear Mr. Webster, I take a great deal offense to your comments about the 11th Armoured Cavalry. I served with them. We performed several types of humanitarian programs while in the AO of Xuan Loc. The incident you tell about where a Nun was killed is a tragedy. It is a further tragedy for someone like yourself to attribute this killing to a soldier who you "suppose" belongs to the 11thARC. There were many incidents in Viet Nam where the enemy would get between us and a village. They would fire on us. Never, ever did we return fire because to do so would have been firing into a Village. Before this gets out of hand I respectfully ask you to withdraw your comments about the 11thACR & admit that you don't really know which unit may be responsible for the killing of a this Nun. I  request you to rethink your slanderous comments & then print your retraction. Respectfully, John Sorich, A Troop, 1/11ACR, 1969. Vice President, 11thACVVC

Webmaster: John is referring to an article posted on this website written by retired Army officer, Richard Webster about his experiences in Vietnam.. The reference to the 11th Cav were edited out of the story 11/17/02.

One girl asked to read about women in Viet Nam, which was a challenging subject, even for me! Thank you for making them available and teaching us all more about the war in general, and especially for including women's experiences. Carolyn Cuskey

Comments: Hello, I have lived in the UK all my life but have always had a fascination with the slick but never had the good luck to ever see one in the flesh. I have read on plenty of sites about the unmistakable noise it makes until recently that is. I had heard that noise and was willing it to be one and it was it flew right over my head at about 150ft and that's when I got the tingling feeling right through me. I will agree with anyone there is no sound like a Heuy flying low overhead (even if it was 2002 in Liverpool UK). Excellent site keep up the good work.

Comments: Excellent site! I participated in the Vietnam conflict from August 1971’ through June 1972’. 1st CAV, 3rd Brigade (Separate) and Task Force Gary Owens. I was a SP5 Fire Direction Control (FDC) Section Chief. I arrived in Da Nang, South Vietnam on August 2nd, 1971 and was assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division, 1st Battalion, 21st Artillery in the III Corp area of South Vietnam. I served 2 months at the 1st CAV, 3rd Brigade, 1st Battalion FDC Headquarters at Bien Hoa 25 miles North West of Saigon from August thru October 1971. The 1/21 Battalion Headquarters FDC was responsible for Tactical Operations in the area and communication with 13 batteries, bounced Medivacs and received casualty reports. After two convoy missions (Tay Ninh – FSB Pace pullout and MACV in Dinah Quan) I was assigned to “D” Battery on FSB Gibraltar. FSB Gibraltar was located NW of Bein Hoa on the Song Dong Nga River. By the end of May, “D” Battery moved from FSB Gibraltar to occupy, I believe the last U.S. fire support base ever to be built in South Vietnam, FSB Bunker Hill 2. This was only a few miles north west of Bien Hoa and FSB Grunt 2, reachable by ground transportation. I would be interested in any contact from 1st CAV vets or MACV (Dinh Quan) who were in the AO at the time August 1971 - June 1972. May God Bless all my Brothers and keep you all safe! Comments: Flew A model Huey in VN in '63 + L-19 & U-1 as advisor in 4th Corp. Was MOI instr. in  A, B, C & D models @ FT Rucker in '65. Was with 173rd AHC in '67 when Wetzel volunteered to be a door gunner #655 with CC Jarvis. Had to fight to retain touchdown auto rotations in the primary training program in '68 -71 while in "C" Dept at Wolters. The extra effort that the young CWO's & Officer IP's of "C" Dept. (the only military primary instructors) gave to their students was truly amazing. I' bet most aviators remember the name of their Primary IP. My hat is off to all of you and hope I can get to one of the LZ's. Last flew a Huey in '72. Remember which models have "BELL" or "Huey" on the pedals? Ret. Lt.Col. Victor A. Johnson

This time I found information on the website that their are a lot of other cancers that should be considered related to Agent Orange. This information came from a study made by the government and was not made public when it was done. But it is now on the internet. The most notable & fun time I remember of Vietnam & the 128th Gun Slingers was the day my AC was chosen to fly Henry Fonda on a live fire mission. He sat in the left & had a ball firing the guns & missiles. He gave me his flight gloves at the end of the mission which I still have to this day. I also have some pictures of him with the crew. I am now Retired from the Army, Feb-63 / Jun-87. Looking fwd to hearing from some of you that may remember me. Thanks Bill for letting me know about this site & Welcome Home to my fellow Vets!!

Comments: My father was Maj. Roy G. Ellington, who served as Robinhood 6 in 1970. I just found the site by chance, but I am glad that I did. My brother's & I have very little information about my father's Vietnam experience. He did not discuss his 2 tours with us kids and unfortunately he died of a massive coronary on December 15th, 1981 in Chicago, Illinois. He had just turned 47 years old. I have my Dad's footlocker and lots of photo's that he took during his 23years in the Army. I know that there are a great many from is time with the Robinhoods. I even have a bundle of your "Calling Cards". The only person that I know that has any information about my Dad is my Mom, Jeanneene. But we seldom talk about Dad and when we do it's scattered bits and pieces. The talks with Mom help me to better understand & know my Dad, but I know that Dad didn't discuss Vietnam with anyone in length. My brothers and I would appreciate any information and Stories we could get from those who knew him and served with him. Also if anyone knows any information about Major Leroy Guy and his wife Bobbi, my mother would like to contact them. Thank You All for serving and for Remembering!

Dear Sirs, I just came across the "Robin Hoods" website and I'm rather happy I found it! I am presently writing my first book on the Cobra for Osprey Publishing, tentatively titled "US Army AH-1 Cobra Units in Vietnam". The book will be 96 pages, with 100 black & white photographs, 20 color photos, and approximately 40 color profiles of various aircraft. I have already done quite a bit of research into the operational end of the Cobra's usage in Vietnam and have been in contact with numerous Cobra crewmembers. However, I am also writing to you with regard to a specific aircraft, namely Cobra 69-16437. The helicopter served with the 173rd in Jun of 1971. Aside from the book, I am also heading up the restoration of #437 to its original G model standard at the New Jersey Aviation Hall of Fame, where I will be full time Curator as of December. Once restored, it will be on exhibit with a complete history of its operations in Vietnam and its modification to S standard and its service with the NJ National Guard. I was hoping to find 173rd Veterans who had worked with or flew this bird in-country. I am looking for stories, photographs and any special markings she may have worn while flying as a "Crossbow". I look forward to hearing from you and thank you very much, Jonathan Bernstein 3002 4th Street Apt 156 Lubbock, TX 79415 (806)744-8381

Webmaster note: Any cooperation with Mr. Bernstein would be greatly appreciated. This should be a very worth while book and hopefully, we will be able to feature information on it and how to  purchase it when it is published.

I have a special request. I have a friend, a Nam vet, who, because of his "unique" service to his country, will never be able to "enjoy" the recognition he deserves. However, he has composed a piece of music that tells the story without words. I would ask that you visit this page and listen. http://cajamnet.net/inrequiem.htm Nothing would please him more than to receive your comments. His email is on the page or you could leave a comment at his forum. Thank you. Sage P.S. This man, a former 1st Lt. in the USMC, is suffering from congestive heart failure. This musical offering may be the last chance he has to give a gift to his country and his fellow servicemen. I cannot tell you how grateful he would be to hear from you.

Comments: Thank you for this site. I am Australian, 60 years old so know what it is to be "involved" in the "Vietnam experience" without actually being there. I argued, I wondered and I cried, as they left. I lost friends, family ... and as the words from some old song says. ...we lost Davy in the Korean War, still dont know what for, doesn't matter anymore ..." Great words, but I guess they are wrong, because it does matter, doesn't it? That war haunts me and for years before that it was Korea that hurt. I always wanted to talk to a man who served in WW11, Korea and in Vietnam too, but as soon as I find one, he dies and I've not got to hear the feelings. If you know a book by someone like this, please let me know. To read it is not as good as hearing, but ... Again, thanks for the site. I cried as I read the stories of connections of the people who search for or find their comrades, fathers.

Comments:   Greetings!!! CHIEF WARRANT OFFICER BILLY EARL McGLOTHLIN was in the 128th from Oct 65 until Sept 66. " Mac" is my father. I am VERY proud of him and everyone that served our great country. Dad was in the Army from 1945 until 1975 . He was an airborne ranger in Korea and became a 1st Sgt with the 18th Air Corps. In 1955, at the age of twenty-seven, he became a Warrant Officer and went to flight school. He met my mother, Mildred, "Millie" at Ft. Bragg in 1956. One year later, I arrived. Dad did three tours in Nam and received seventeen Air Medals, five Bronze Stars. I didn't appreciate his contributions to our great country until I was older and understood where he was coming from. If anyone knew my father, I would love hearing from you. I am very proud of him and all of the other men and women that gave the ultimate sacrifice to our country. Dad was a man of few words. I miss him very much. We, our family, all miss him and enjoy our memories of him. If anyone knew Billy McGlothlin, I would much like to hear from you.  Again thank you.. Comments:  Last week, after 33 years, I connected with my dad at the VHCMA 2002 Reunion in Phoenix. My father was LTC Richard (Dick) Schaefer; he made it through Nam only to die two years later in a head-on collision when someone fell asleep at the wheel. He was with the 162nd AHC (Vultures) in Phuoc Vinh from OCT '66 and then went to Lai Khe as CO of the 173rd from JAN '67 to JUN '67 - - doin' that ROBINHOOD 'swoop' from the way I heard it told at the reunion. My mother came, too. It was so wonderful to hook up with the guys he knew and flew with... we met the men Dick led and learned to love and they met the wife and daughter for whom he had great love (as he did his son and other 2 daughters). During those 4-5 days in Phoenix, my dad was there and passed between us in every hug... the Dad I loved to the guys, and the leader they respected and cared for to me. I felt such pride that he was a Robinhood. It was good to hug him again. Thank you for your web site and 'Ditto' to all of those who provide opportunities for communication and healing to the ones who went into hell and managed to come out. May you find your friends, may you connect, and find peace.

Comments: Reading through this year book of the Tomahawks, brings back some bitter sweet memories, it also brought back some fond ones of all the friends that I made, the tears we shed together, the friends that are no longer here, but remain in our hearts. My call sign was the "Witchdoctor" because I worked in Maintenance, but I did my fair share of "CA's, I flew "Smoke the Bear" on several insertions and that was exciting to say the least.

Webmaster note: "The Witchdoctor " call sign was used by the many crews over those  years in Phu Loi (And still in use in Korea, with the remnants of the old company that is there under a new name). I myself,  flew on the Witchdoctor, very briefly in the spring of 1967,  before getting my own ship to crew. Back in 1974, I saw an actual plastic model huey, being sold in chain stores, that was using the Witchdoctor on the cover. It had all the right decals and markings of the 128th AHC Maintenance ship.

Comments: Hi Bill, I read an article about you in the paper. I attached a copy of it below. I am just curious how come your web site have yet has any photos or stories of your return trip to Viet Nam? I am not a Vet. I got displace from my country after the war. Thanks, Tuesday May 14 08:56 PM EDT Local Veteran Returns From Vietnam Trip Traveling to another country is usually a lot easier the second time you visit. But not if that country is Vietnam, and the first time you were there was to fight its people. Bill McDonald was in Vietnam 35 years ago when he was just 21 years old. "I was camped not too far from that point for Operation Cedar Falls," McDonald said. He decided to return after all these years. "I was going over there to build some personal bridges," McDonald said. McDonald and the three other veterans who flew over to Vietnam called themselves the "peace patrol." They spent 18 days visiting with former Vietcong soldiers. "The guy shows me pictures of his grandson. That did it for me. Wow. We weren't ex-soldiers. We were people," McDonald said. McDonald also bought a Vietcong victory flag that was supposed to be genuine. "Bought the genuine flag, came back to check on something, and it was restocked with another genuine flag," McDonald said. The trip has given McDonald answers to some long-lasting questions. But there are new questions for McDonald by other veterans, concerning his Web site and his newfound sympathy for the former enemy. "My feeling is that my message is not going to be received well by some. There are some people who want to stay entrenched in hostility. In reality, the world has moved on. We need to move on," McDonald said. And for McDonald, moving on will mean going back to a country that has now had a defining role in his life, twice. To take a look at McDonald's Web site, click here.

WEBMASTER NOTE: There is now a place on my website where you can begin to read about the trip. Click on the top of any page on Vietnam 2002 Trip. I have begun to put photos on there and will be following up with comments, stories and much more. It will take several more weeks - be patient. My goal is to share the experience as best I can with others.

My brother in arms, now united understanding the value of peace...I salute you for your poetry and statements. For indeed, the olde warriors who have stared into the grim face of death and evil, feeling its hot breath of hatred and cold hands quickening the heart and very soul, best appreciate and desire the values of pure peace and worldwide brotherhood that will vanquish hatred from the hearts and souls of all men. I started writing my poetry almost three years ago, because all the people of the world continually need to understand how important an event war is. War will always be a determining factor of not only who we are, but will determine our very futures, as well as that of generations, dictating the futures of our wives and children. I sincerely hope we will not doom our children to fight senseless battles as did we, shackling them to similar fates suffered by their fathers in the latest in a series of "war-to-end-all-wars!" If we do not learn the history of war, learning there is no glory in war...only death, destruction of values and misery, then we are doomed to repeat it! And the next war will inexorably come! Sometimes war is a necessary evil...sometimes not...sometimes there's Vietnam! My fervent wish is that we will come to understand the horrors of war, that we can work for peace evermore, making war-no-more! Visit my "Vietnam Picture Tour, from the lens and poets pen of a combat infantryman," Take a walk in "the park" grunts called Vietnam, with the 1st Air Cavalry on combat patrol. Experience chilling reality to leave the sweet and sour taste of "the Nam" pungent on your tongue, acrid in your nostrils, and imbedded in your brain as though walking beside me in combat. http://PZZZZ.tripod.com/namtour.html

I joined the 128th in the end of April 1971, I came from 2/12 infantry "recon" from Xuan Loc, Camp Husky. My first flight was with Tommy "Mile High" Michele, and the crew chief was Chuck Jernigan. I remember just a few guy's, Larry Barnes, a pilot that I went to Sydney with named "Racky" Captain Corn, another pilot who was ex Special Forces named Bill I think. Phu Loi was an experience, there was a great bunch of guy's there. I remember flying "Night Hawk a couple of times just to get Navy chow. I also remember a guy named Shumacher, and a gun pilot named Bertlasio. God Bless.. Lou Leinhauser

I was an original Robin Hood. Formed at Benning, took the cruise to SE Asia and finally stopped in Lai Khe in the middle of a rubber plantation. I was a 1LT when deployed and promoted to CPT soon after arrival in VN. I was the 1st, I think, to be med evac in Sep 65. Shot in the Iron Triangle. Spent the 2nd tour with 101st. Commanded C Troop 17th Air Cavalry for a full year. Still limp from the Purple Heart event I had with the RH's. Jim Newman (James T Newman)

WEBMASTER: As far as anyone can tell Jim, you were the first wounded member of the Robin Hoods to be med-evaced out of the unit.

We thought it was great no sleeping in the bush -  EM club every night.  One of us, Mike Burns, extended his tour so he could get out when he got home. Mike was killed in a crash. I was shot down twice plus a few mechanical problems forced us down. Then a trip up North, where our ship flew Command and Control for the Viet invasion of Cambodia. We were also the medivac and their air power. The 128th was some outfit.

I was an air traffic controller in HHT, 3rd Sqdn, 17th ACAV at Di An and Tay Ninh from 10/67 to 10/68. Our Sqdn Call sign was "Red Horse" (Winged Pegasus). I flew as a volunteer door-gunner whenever I was off-duty. I remember "working" the Robin Hoods, Tomahawks, Cross Bows, and others mentioned. Greatest admiration and respect for all who served...no finer men.

Comments: First off this is a great website!! I am not a Viet Nam veteran but I am a veteran and a Tomahawk. I would like to refer to your newsletter issue number 35. The Korean Tomahawks was my unit and this was in 1992. The unit that I served with was Charlie Company, 1st Battalion 501st Aviation Regiment, 17th Aviation Brigade. The unit was then stationed at Camp Page in Chunchon, Korea, it was a UH-60 Blackhawk air assault company and it was still doing some of the same missions as were mentioned in the newsletter. I personally was a part of many air assault missions up toward the DMZ. Sadly to say that when I left the unit in March of 1993 things in the Army were starting to go through some big changes in Korea. We as a unit were steeped in tradition and esprit de corps, and I feel from reviewing your website that we were able to keep an important unit history and lineage intact. We, the Korean Tomahawks worked hard and played hard and were proud to proclaim being a Tomahawk. We were even utilizing the same unit patch although it was updated with the new unit designation. The crewchiefs in our unit even used the name witchdoctors for an unofficial group. I hope that if you are looking for a continuing lineage to the Tomahawks of the 128th this information is of some use to you.

WEBMASTER NOTE: We welcome all Tomahawks - including our "younger brothers" from Korea and the 17th Aviation Brigade. I would love to add photos and stories of those experiences to the Tomahawk unit pages. We are all brothers! Just send any contributions of photos and stories that you might have and we will post them for you. Send to me at: angelnet@citlink.net

I'm not quite sure how to begin this message, I think it's because I never really knew my dad as a soldier--although he was career military (Army), he retired after 25 years of service. His name was, Emery "Lou" Herrick.

Through my search I've just recently learned these details of my dad's time and service in Vietnam: Flight Class: 66-9 Callsign: RAZORBACK 36/ASSAULT

Years - U.S. Army units in Vietnam 66 - 173 AH; 66-67, 120 AHC; 69,  A/2/17 CAV 101 ABN; 69-70, HHT/2/17 CAV.

I guess the reason I'm looking for anyone who might have known him, is because he died almost three years ago, and although the death certificate says "heart attack", I personally think that ghosts took him. I think that he never really got over everything he saw and did in Vietnam--not to say that one has to, or even should.

For as much as he was my entire world, I just never really knew him. Now I feel like the ghost of that realization is starting to haunt me. So, I'm looking to see if anyone knew him, and if they did could they tell me about him. Tell me about the good and the bad. Tell me about his Silver Star, just tell me about him. I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

WEBMASTER NOTE: Any Robin Hoods that knew his dad please respond back to him.

Comments: Hello Rev. Bill, Thank you for visiting my site and signing my guestbook. I thought I would return the gesture and am quite glad I did. Your site is very informative and well structured. The story of you and your sister's encounter's was very interesting to me. For I too had the unexplained bloody noses, and I encountered one Being instead of five. Also in uniform though . This was about the age of nine. I also screamed and my brother did not hear while laying next to me. Since my brother couldn't respond I laid still until I went back to sleep. This was also about the time that I started to have feelings of ESP. After that I have always been the guy who hears a persons words before they speak them, and feels things happen just before they happen. And I still wake in the night with the feeling that someone is in the room with me. And yes, I do agree with you that the road to God has many path's. And, as it seems we are both on very different paths, but we obviously share some similarities in the way we got started. I will be in touch with you soon, via-email link on this site.

Hello brother "Tomahawks" and "Gunslingers".  I arrived in Viet Nam on my birthday (13 Dec 1965) at the early age of 18. Did Uncle Sam time that one right.  I knew most of the "gunner's" average age was 18 to 23 years old. I remember one fellow from Minnesota who's name I forgot at the moment (That's called senior memory) but he was a "Gunslinger" , claimed he was 17 years old. Good God you all," we were all kids" who grow up in a hurry.

We started out using the bunge cord (new unit) for the first eight months in country. My tail # was 987, how could I forget. Man those were the days "No-Retrictions" I made an extension on my set belt, just long enough to place my left foot on the skid with the left end pole seated right in the middle of my back. I had my helmet painted bright red - Man, I was invincible. What freedom! What a view, I could see every thing in my sights that was going on during the assault.

In those days, we gunners had respect. I'm proud to say my guns were always clean and ready to fire. Most pilots and crew chiefs new my reputation and called upon me to fly as their gunner, when my ship was scheduled for maintenance. John Manning from Hollywood, Florida, was my crew chief; he trusted my guns to be there when needed, not to jam, but fire - always cleaned and ready to fire! When my ship was scheduled for inspection, other crew chiefs asked if I would fly gunner. I was always called upon to fly as their gunner. Crew chiefs would ask if I would like to fly gunner with them - How could I refuse, I loved my Job. I would always ask if I would fly as their gunner they could depend on me.

I served in the 1st Infantry Division as a finance clerk at Phu Loi from sometime in November 1969, until the 1st left Vietnam sometime in 1970. When they left, we became 22nd Finance. I did the payroll of some, if not all, of the enlisted personnel of the 128th ASHC. I may have also worked the financial files of the 173rd - it has been such a long time since, I'm not really sure that I remember everything accurately.

The saddest day of my tour in 'Nam was early on. I worked hard to straighten out the financial records of a married Hispanic man in the 128th. I believed he was from Monterey, California, and that's where his wife lived. She wasn't getting her proper allotment from Uncle Sam and they had other payroll problems as well. I spent a lot of time getting his financial affairs in order. He was very happy that she would be getting all she deserved from the Army. Not too long after that, there was an explosion across the runway from us. I didn't realize until the next morning, that this man was killed in the explosion. As I recall, a rocket was dropped or went off accidentally. I remembered at the time, that I felt it all seemed so futile.

22nd Finance later moved back down to Di An, which wasn't nearly as nice as Phu Loi. I remember when I first arrived in 'Nam, I was sent to Di An to be processed into the 1st. Later they told me I would be going to Phu Loi. When I got into the 3/4 ton truck to go from Di An to Phu Loi, I was disappointed. But when I got there, the guys from 22nd Finance welcomed me to the "Country Club", meaning that it was going to be much more relaxed here than at the 1st's headquarters company in Di An.

Somewhere I have the 128th badge sewn to the top of a boonie hat - Yosemite Sam with the title "Gunslingers".

My Best Regards to All Who Served with the 128th ASHC and 173rd ASHC,

SP5 Jon Ahlberg, Pay & Disbursing Specialist, 1st Infantry and 22nd Finance

Greetings from southern Idaho.

I usually make every attempt to ignore Guestbooks. I find that for the most part they are empty, or the last entry is years old. However, I enjoy this site so much, that I felt that I should tell someone. Webmaster, thank you for this page. As a soon to be recruit in the Army, I find this page to be full of the type of information that I have been seeking across the net. Over the course of the past three days, I have read nearly every story. For my whole life I have tried to imagine what it must be like to be a soldier. In August, I'll get a little taste at Basic. I can't wait. Keep up the good work, I'll be reading. Jason
