Sometimes, I run across
something on the world wide web that really moves me - such was the accidental
discovery this week, of a hidden gem - a website from 8th grade teacher,
Ms. Linda Garcia's 1997-98 class from Waters Elementary School
- Room 311, in Chicago. Within these pages you will find, according
their own school website:
Presentations of poetry on
Vietnam.
The students created not only wonderful
poetry, but also added colorful art work of the war. TheY created this all
after having made a visit to "the Vietnam War Museum" in
Chicago. Their pages not only show you their art work and prose - but you
can click on to each child's work and listen to them read it aloud to you.
Click on the link below and enjoy yourself. You might just find it a
moving and also healing experience for you. http://collaboratory.nunet.net/waters/garcia/

Two of the Poems from Ms. Garcia's English Class
ME IN VIETNAM
It seems like I am Screaming at the
top
of my lungs but nobody can hear me
I have so much anger inside of me
I can feel my tears burning down my face
I feel my heart hurting deep inside
I am in a faceless crowd
hoping that someone can feel what I feel
I think of all the stuff that I took
for granted
like my friends and family
So here I am
not even ready
to die
But if I do
I'll die with
dignity
and
pride

The Strong
They were very bold
to do what they were told
they were very brave because they
tried to save they were very strong
to keep going on they were very weak
but their hearts weren't meek and
while some were dying
others were crying even though it's
over we still can't sleep at night
because of all the fright
we went through that one night

Editorial Comments: I
have plugged this group in several other issues of my newsletter, over the
past couple of years - there is a good reason for this: They are doing
a needed service and they NEED YOUR HELP!
